GMC SUPER CRUISE

What is GMC Super Cruise™ Driver Assist Technology?

GMC Super Cruise™ is a hands-free driver assistance system that can be used on compatible roads. GMC provides a wide range of innovative assistance systems to give every driver the best experience during their time inside. This new system opens many opportunities for drivers, and we want you to be able to take advantage of it. Drivers still need to pay attention while behind the wheel, but Super Cruise™ takes care of the rest.

How Does Super Cruise™ Work?

Super Cruise™ uses various systems to help drivers appreciate the hands-free operation of their vehicle. The GMC Connected Services system is a main component of Super Cruise™, using real-time cameras, sensors, GPS, and LiDAR mapping data to detect the road and help make long drives and commutes easier to handle.

Systems Needed for Super Cruise™

  • GMC Connected Services: Complimentary for Super Cruise™-enabled vehicles for three years, but then needs a Connected Services Plan.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control must be activated
  • Forward Collision System must be set to ALERT AND BRAKE
  • Teen Driver System needs to be turned off

It is important to remember that Super Cruise™ is available on over 200,000 miles of compatible roads when lane markings are visible. You cannot have the camera or radar sensor covered or obstructed. The Driver Attention Camera ensures drivers continue to pay attention to the road ahead, issuing warnings if it senses the driver is not watching. Drivers must pay attention for the system to continue to operate.

Using Super Cruise™

Drivers first need to press the Adaptive Cruise Control button while on a compatible road. Then, a white Super Cruise™ symbol will appear in the instrument cluster if all other conditions are met. When it's safe, drivers will press the Super Cruise™ button on the steering wheel. Once the light on the steering wheel is green, drivers can take their hands off the wheel. Pressing the brake or Super Cruise™ button while the mode is active will disengage Super Cruise™.

Select vehicles have automatic lane change functionality integrated into Super Cruise™. This allows your GMC to change lanes without needing inputs from the driver. The gauge cluster informs drivers when the lane change will happen and gently guides the vehicle around slower vehicles or out of the lane if it ends. The system will alert drivers if merging must be done manually.
